White Darjeeling is made from the fresh, fuzzy white tips of the tea plant, making for a light, sweet, extremely pleasant brew.
The brew has some color and fullness in flavor in spite of its white tea designation.
While most people are familiar with Darjeeling black teas, white teas from the region are lesser known but equally delicious. They contain some of the same notes that characterize the region, such as the classic muscatel grape flavor.
In 2000, we initiated a project in Darjeeling to produce white teas. We believe it was one of the first such projects for the Indian tea industry, and it involved identifying appropriate tea plant varietals growing across various tea gardens in Darjeeling.
This White Darjeeling is grown in one of Darjeeling’s oldest tea gardens.
